Jaclyn Wilde is a successful events planner for Premier, the company she runs with her mother. They do a variety of events but this week, weddings are truly the main event. In fact, Jaclyn has six weddings in five days to get through. Not easy for a small company but there has to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately, that light is definitely not Premier client, Carrie Edwards. She is rude and cruel and is determined to put Jaclyn in her place. Jaclyn cannot help wishing that they never took her on as a client. The day gets a tad better when Jaclyn figuratively runs into a man at city hall. Detective Eric Wilder definitely can appreciate a beautiful woman and Jaclyn is just that. When they unexpectedly meet up at a bar later in the evening, the heat is on and they share a night to remember.

Unfortunately, the next day is anything but enjoyable and then the bad news comes out. Carrie Edwards has been murdered and Jaclyn is a prime suspect because of a scuffle they had earlier in the day. The main detective on the case just happens to be one Eric Wilder and he is not happy to see Jaclyn in this position. But he has to be fair and that means keeping his distance. Is their one night together just a memory? What will happen when word spreads that Jaclyn could potentially identify the killer? Has Jaclyn planned her last event?
VEIL OF NIGHT is one of my favorite Linda Howard titles in several years! There is action, suspense, some fantastic witty banter, and plenty of sizzle between Jaclyn and Eric. I also enjoyed the various events that Jaclyn worked. The Hee-Haw wedding in particular was amusing and uncouth but added levity to the suspense. Truly, Linda Howard got this book just right. There is a strong sexual tension that runs from the opening pages until the ending and while the murder itself is not hard to solve, I liked seeing the process of how Eric put all the clues together. He is a by the book man but he also did not want to let that stand in the way of his growing feelings for Jaclyn.
VEIL OF NIGHT entertained me immensely! The backdrop of Atlanta society comes alive as do the various characters in Jaclyn's life, adding flavor and authenticity to her career. But truly, the romance itself stood out and made me remember just how much I can enjoy a Linda Howard story.
