For years Devlin Group Agent Carmen Olivera has lusted after her fellow agent John “Gallagher” McLaine. Carmen has never allowed herself to go there though, because Gallagher is the kind of guy who inspires thoughts of picket fences and a houseful of kids. Those dreams aren’t for Carmen. After being orphaned at age 10, and then bouncing around several foster homes, Carmen has decided to spend her life dedicated to her career, trying to save lives and rid the world of bad guys. Gallagher has always wanted Carmen, from the moment he first laid eyes on her. After slowly trying to work on a plan to convince her to give him a chance, he lost a few brownie points by leaving her out of a dangerous mission, which made Carmen think that he doesn’t respect her skills as an agent. Now that the two of them have been assigned to a routine reconnaissance mission, giving Gallagher some alone time with Carmen, he hopes that he can work on winning her over.
When their simple assignment goes bust, and Gallagher and Carmen narrowly escape with their lives, Carmen’s inhibitions temporarily disappear and she allows herself one night with the man who inhabits all of her fantasies. One night is all she can give though, because now the Devlin Group has been tagged for another, much more deadly assignment; the rescue of a young woman being held captive by a madman in South Africa. This really is a mission impossible, only with Gallagher’s utmost attention to every detail will the group be able to succeed. The trouble is, Gallagher is having a hard time concentrating on anything except Carmen and her safety. With the clock ticking, and all the odds stacked against them, will the Devlin Group be able to pull off yet another miracle?
NO SURRENDER is the third story in author Shannon Stacey’s DEVLIN GROUP series, and it is every bit as fast-paced, sexy and action-packed as the previous ones. This is a novel that starts out with a bang, literally, and doesn’t let up on the suspense from there. Spanning the globe from an icy cold winter in Canada to the sultry heat in South Africa, and with an amazing cast of intriguing characters, both good and bad, NO SURRENDER kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole ride. I am a huge fan of romantic suspense and can definitely say that Ms. Stacey can hold her own with the best authors of the genre. I will be eagerly anticipating her next release.
