CIA Deputy Director Michael Stone’s life, as of late, seemed laden with holes and blemishes that he was forever trying to patch. His past, his personal life, and even his body a testament to the battles he’d been up against. No matter how much he tried to mend things though, the seams just seemed to rip out at an opposite end somewhere. When his niece, daughter of the Republican Presidential Candidate, disappears without a trace from a school function, he makes a vow to bring her to safety at all costs.
Doctor Brigit Kent, consultant to the current president and consultant of Homeland Security, is still tormented by her past. Having been a kidnap victim herself, she uses her experience to identify with present kidnapping situations. When news is received that the Republican Presidential Candidate’s daughter, Eleanor Pennington, is kidnapped, the case becomes personal. Brigit is too familiar with the kidnapper’s calling card and fears the perpetrator is too close to home. Brigit is also trying to keep her sister’s involvement with a terrorist group under wraps, but shedding light on the kidnapper will expose her secret.
Michael concedes Brigit is intelligent as well as beautiful, but something about her doesn’t quite pan out. He knows she’s hiding something, and he intends on finding out what it is. Brigit is drawn to the sexy CIA agent, who exudes power, but she can’t allow herself to get too involved personally. With stakes so high, Michael and Brigit could lose everything they believe worth fighting for, right along with their hearts.
PROOF OF LIFE, the third installment in the SUPER AGENTS series brings you into the world of politics and terrorism. It is a well written tale that has both notable dialogue and key elements to keep the story flowing nicely. Misty Evans weaves in her own brand of intrigue and conspiracy layered with emotion and conflicts. I found myself anticipating what would happen next as bits of the protagonist's past were revealed and clues dropped. I enjoyed the chemistry between Michael and Brigit and watching their connection grow as well as the barriers that were thrown between them. The secondary characters also held my interest and I will be going back to get the first two books in the series to read about the other super agents. © Copyright 2003 by RomanceJunkies.com |
