Maureen Davenport had youthful dreams of using her talents to become a star in New York. A disastrous college year abroad dashed that dream and set her on a new path. As she approaches thirty, Maureen's life is one of quiet contentment. She has a family who loves her and is the head librarian in her hometown of Avalon. This Christmas season she is even using her dramatic flair as she becomes director of the annual town Christmas pageant. She is not happy when she finds out former child star Eddie Haven is working off court ordered community service hours and plans to do that as her assistant for the pageant.
Eddie had a less than conventional childhood and does not care much for Christmas. Maureen loves the season and wonders if the two of them can work together without serious clashes. Eddie had a Christmas miracle after surviving a crash three years ago and Maureen hopes to show him Christmas can always be a season of miracles. He will have to help Maureen pull off a miracle when she finds out that her beloved library may have to close at the end of the year due to hard times and budget shortfalls. Maureen is given an offer of money help for the library, but it has rather unethical strings attached. Eddie and Maureen have to deal with baggage from the past and present pain to try to salvage this Christmas.
With LAKESHORE CHRISTMAS, author Susan Wiggs has created a story for all seasons. Her vivid descriptions bring the town of Avalon to life. I felt that I had known the two main characters forever by the end of this charming novel. Eddie and Maureen are each trapped in their past mistakes and are having a hard time moving on. They are wary of love, but have lessons to share with each other.
I have read all the Lakeshore Chronicles books so far and they each are full of tender romance and will lift your spirits. I look forward to more novels in this captivating series.
