Christen Matthews has suffered more than her fair share of heartbreak and loss. She may live in paradise, but after the death of her uncle and her disastrous relationships, she figures her work and career are what she needs to focus on. Love is not what she is looking for right now, yet she keeps crossing paths with men who make her question her reasons for swearing off the opposite sex.
Commander Keono Kuai is a no-nonsense homicide detective and former Marine. He takes charge and is always in control. When a serial killer begins murdering young women, he is going to do what it takes to catch him. He didn’t count on falling for Christen, but he did, and now as the killer approaches and threatens his woman, Keono realizes this may be his toughest case yet.
True to its romantic suspense tag, this story will grab you from the beginning pages. Full of twists and turns, I found that I suspected a different person after each chapter, yet I was never really sure who the killer was and the ending was nothing if not shocking.
Ms. Henion’s characters were real and believable. Christen and her friends are women much like ones I know in my own life. Christen is a strong and independent woman who can support herself and is looking for a partner in life, not a man to make her complete or fulfilled, but to compliment her already stable life.
Keono was alpha enough to do his job and be believable as a police officer, protective of Christen, yet still caring and loving as well. He is a well-developed character with many facets to his personality that I found very endearing.
