Meet Laurel McKay, single mom, dancing disaster, and murder magnet… ok, maybe not quite that bad but it sure feels like it.  Her best friend has become a Bridezilla and expects her to be able to dance a choreographed foxtrot in perfect synchronization at the wedding.  Now one of the dance instructors has been murdered.  The murder weapon?  Her silver spiked heels – the very ones that she’s supposed to wear at the wedding.  It looks like she could very well be the police’s primary suspect and Laurel’s already been there, done that and has no intention of leaving her future in the hands of America’s finest men in blue.

Tom Hunter is one of the detectives who arrives at the dance studio to investigate Dimitri’s murder.  Tom and Laurel dated briefly before he disappeared from her life with no explanation.  She’s still hurt by his rejection and not particularly in the mood to renew their acquaintance even though every fiber of her body desperately wants him back in her life.  This isn’t exactly the sort of circumstances ideal to renewing any love interest though.

With Christmas just around the corner Laurel’s faced with juggling her family obligations, matron of honor duties, her work schedule and now sleuthing.  It was bad enough when she was the primary suspect but there are others with a reason to hold a grudge against Dimitri, one of them being her boss at the bank.  If her boss goes down for a crime Laurel’s sure he didn’t commit then there goes her Christmas bonus and that’s just unacceptable.  Lauren’s investigation isn’t appreciated by everyone.  Fortunately Tom isn’t opposed to coming to her rescue when necessary even if the relationship between them is still undefined.

DYING FOR A DANCE is the sequel to DYING FOR A DATE but in all honesty you really don’t have to read the first book in order to thoroughly enjoy this one – though it might help to better understand what happened between Laurel and Tom.  Laurel’s position as a harried mother, friend and employee are endearingly funny while at the same time so very realistic.  Throw in the drama surrounding the dance studio and you have a fun suspenseful read that holds your attention, captures your imagination and keeps you chuckling at Laurel’s antics.  Every character lends a different air to the story which keeps you guessing at the identity of the killer as well as giving you great insight into Laurel as a person.   Cindy Sample’s writing is positively fun, imaginative and all around tantalizing – she’s definitely an author well worth adding to your ‘watch’ list.
