Crash Into Me

FBI agent Sonora “Sonny” Vasquez has just been assigned a tough but intriguing case. Women are turning up dead in the wealthy community of La Jolla and the evidence points to renowned surfer Ben Fortune. He is sexy, he is rich, and he was implicated in his wife’s murder. Sonny, going undercover as Summer, is told to get under his defenses and find out if he is connected to the new murders.

It is a more difficult case than Sonny thought possible however. Ben is reclusive and does not crave the spotlight like he used to. He just wants to live his life with his teenage daughter, Carly. And that is where Sonny breaks through his defenses, when she rescues Carly from a nighttime swim. Ben is grateful if wary. What is Summer’s game? But the more he gets to know Summer, the more Ben is drawn to her. Summer’s reticence about getting close to him draws him in more so than if she was eager to get to know him. But Ben does not know Sonny’s true motives in working her way into his life. As she comes to care for Ben, and Carly, Sonny realizes she has some hard choices in front of her if she wants to stay objective about the case. Meanwhile, the murderer is out there still killing women. And the case takes on a very personal note for Sonny, a surprise in which she is ill prepared to understand.

CRASH INTO ME proved to the kind of book I was very surprised by. I ended up reading it in one sitting and I just could not put it down. This does not happen too often with romantic suspense, at least for this reviewer. But Jill Sorenson has a way with words and a way with creating multi-faceted and refreshing characters. There is depth on these pages. You will not just skim along the surface of this story; rather, readers will become deeply invested in the emerging romance between Ben and Sonny. Each of these characters face a world of pain and betrayal but in each other there is an instant and strong connection.

I also fell hard for the romance between teenage characters Carly and bad boy James. Their story was a wonderful counterpart to the adult love story.

While the suspense proves to be an integral part of the story, I found myself enjoying Ben’s wooing of Sonny, and her attempts to distance herself from, all the while slowly revealing important parts of her past to him.

CRASH INTO ME is an edgy and powerful love story. You will crash into this story with full force, relishing every minute of it. Jill Sorenson has a new fan!
