Roman Chernichenko, a former Army Ranger who now works for a Black-Ops organization known as ATRATI, has been sent to assassinate Tanya, whose brother is married to Roman’s sister. However, he is determined not to let their relationship get in the way. But he has his doubts about her guilt and he is not willing to kill her on such flimsy evidence just to save the butt of some bureaucratic jerk. So he and his team conduct their own investigation and her innocence is proven as he spends time with her. His cover is to serve, with his team, as security for Bennett Vincent, who is also undercover for Goddard Projects, another super-secret government organization. As far as anyone knows, including Roman and his team, Bennett has been sent to Africa to investigate humane violations at the local mines, but his main objective is to secretly investigate the leak of the sensitive military information and Tanya’s guilt.
Tanya is attracted to Roman as she has never been to another man and decides that a little intimacy with him would be just what she needs, even though she knows that nothing permanent will come of it. As for Roman, the attraction is mutual and their intimacy could prove beneficial to his investigation. During a trip out in the field, Roman discovers that someone wants Tanya dead before any further investigation can be conducted. So he and Tanya flee, hoping he can get his superiors to listen to his proof of her innocence, and they are soon hiding from both the good and the bad guys, even as their passion for each other spins out of control.
An exciting tale, CLOSE QUARTERS, the fifth novel in author Lucy Monroe’s GODDARD PROJECT series, is a fast-paced passionate romantic suspense that will grab your attention from the very beginning. With his past and what he has seen and done, Roman’s demeanor is cold; he rarely cracks a smile. But despite Roman’s cold personality, his super soldier team’s camaraderie adds warmth to the story. There is also a secondary romance in this story between Bennett and Dr. Fleur. Brimming with action, suspense, danger, espionage, passion, clever banter, Africa, complex characters, romance and a forever after love, this is a book you will not forget soon. This is the first book of this series that I have read so I can say with confidence that it can be read as a standalone. But for additional enjoyment and further insight into some of the other characters, I suggest reading the other books in this exciting series. Which includes; SATISFACTION GUARANTEED, DEAL WITH THIS, THE SPY WHO WANTS ME and WATCH OVER ME. I highly recommend CLOSE QUARTERS and look forward to reading more of this series as well as Ms. Monroe’s future works.
