Detective Russell Hunter
arrives at the murder scene and he is immediately drawn to Stephen. However, he
has a murder to solve and he is determined to remain professional. Stephan and
his friend have both had run-ins with the victim and she was found not ten feet
from Stephan’s front door. This makes both men prime suspects. He can’t deny
his attraction to the artist. Russell finds himself hoping that he can prove
Stephan innocent and give in to the urge to get to know him on a much more
intimate level.
P.A. Brown is one of my
favorite m/m authors. I enjoy her novels a great deal. BETWEEN DARKNESS AND
LIGHT is an entertaining read. This novel is written in the first person. The reader
only knows what Stephen does. First person isn’t my favorite but the author
uses it very effectively. The manner in which Stephan finds the victim is
shocking and drew me into the story right away. The story is well-paced and
held my interest. Stella Gold is not a likable character. I found it difficult
to empathize with her but her abrasive personality made the hunt for her murder
more difficult as there was no shortage of suspects. P.A. Brown kept me
guessing until the very end.
The mystery surrounding
the Stella Gold’s is interwoven expertly with the romance between Russell and
Stephen. Russell is a very private person and his reluctance to share many
details about his past intrigues Stephen and the reader as well. Stephen is
determined to discover all he can about the detective. I found both the heroes
very appealing and I enjoyed getting to know them. Their interactions are
exciting and realistic. BETWEEN DARKNESS AND LIGHT is yet another absorbing and
well-written mystery novel from author P.A. Brown.
