Ellie is the Vampire Queen’s lieutenant and spokesperson.  She is tasked to open up the can of worms that comes from officially outing vampires. After the initial shockwaves subside and humans are either buying shares in holy water or dismissing what they viewed on their screens of the press conference as fake; she is asked to further satisfy human curiosity by submitting to Dr Rafael Angelous’ testing.

 

 

Medical probing is not what is on Ellie’s mind when she meets the geeky but seriously attractive doctor.  Rafe is also curiously immune to Ellie’s blatant sexual allure.  She shouldn’t concern herself as she is not allowed to cause him harm and sex with human males is fatally toxic - for the human of course.

Even though Ellie knows better than to play with her food, she cannot help but keep trying to get Rafe to react to her with more than scientific curiosity; and at the same time not reveal any vampiric strengths or weaknesses that

humans don’t need to know about.

More importantly Ellie doesn’t want either Rafe or other humans to realize why the vampires have chosen now to come out of the coffin.  War is coming, and everyone needs to join the ranks against the enemy or face annihilation.

As usual Ms. Langlais doesn’t hold back on the quips or great narrative.  Ellie is a joy as all Ms. Langlais’ heroines are.  Her interactions with Rafe and the delicious plot keep you rapt.  I can’t wait for the next installment.  This author always delivers.
