Mei has been working as a Warrior for the Balance for the past two thousand years.
The year before that she spent surviving every horror the demons of Carthau could throw at her.
She’s learned to be strong and fight for what she believes but nothing has prepared her for the shock of learning that the life changing events which thrust her from her home and loved ones three millennia ago was all a lie.
When Mei’s boss, Donovan, informs her that she must return to Tir na nOg to help the Fae she is less than pleased.
After all, she’d been exiled from there and she believes it was her mother, Ann, the queen of the Fae, who ordered her banishment.
It isn’t until Donovan escorts her back to Tir na nOg that Mei realizes not only the shocking truth that lead to her time away from her family but that her husband, whom she’d been told had died, is very much alive.
Jayce MacTavish had been led to believe that Mei was dead.
He’s overjoyed to learn of her survival and that she’s returned but he’ll soon learn that she’s not the same innocent trusting woman she’d once been.
She’s lived through her own private hell, became a warrior and found love with another man, but Card isn’t just another man, he’s half Were-half demon.
What could have been a very difficult situation with a lot of jealousy between the trio takes an interesting turn when Freya and Donovan take the spells that bound Jayce with Mei and Card with Mei and make a third spell to bind the three in a triad.
There are still some issues regarding Mei’s time at Carthau and Jayce’s feelings of being excluded from her emotional state because Cord was there for her during that time and immediately after her escape.
Fortunately he’s quick to realize that there are far more important things to worry about . . .
like the Dark Fae’s rifting through universes in their bid to build forces - but what are the Dark Fae after? And will Jayce, Cord and Mei be able to stop them in time?
Lauren Dane’s THREAT OF DARKNESS is a spin-off from her WITCHES KNOT series but is not part of the series and can easily be read as a standalone.
I fell in love with the characters in this story and Mei absolutely won me over with her kick butt attitude, inner strength and devotion to Cord and Jayce.
The three of them together are simply unforgettable and whether lovemaking or fighting the Dark Fae, there’s no doubt they compliment each other beautifully.
