Ron is content to spend
his days taking pictures but he soon realizes that there is something strange
going on. Late at night he hears a young man sobbing. The crying is heart
breaking and try as he might he cannot find a reasonable explanation. The
locals say the house is haunted but he absolutely does not believe in ghosts. Ron
is intrigued by the mysterious crier but he is quickly distracted by his
equally mysterious neighbor.
When Drew La Salle meets
the young man staying at the house closest to his he feels an immediate and
intense attraction to him. Ron’s presence stirs up emotions and memories Drew
thought were long buried. The last thing Drew wants is to have feelings for the
younger man but he can’t deny them either. Can Drew overcome his past and find
happiness or is he doomed to spend the rest of his life alone?
I was very excited to read
THESE HAUNTED HEIGHTS by Ally Blue and I was not disappointed. Ms. Blue has
written a few paranormal romances all of which I have enjoyed very much. It is
the paranormal element that initially drew me to the novel. However, there are
many layers to this novel.
I was enchanted by the
setting of the novel. I’ve never been to the Oregon coast but after reading THESE HAUNTED
HEIGHTS I definitely want to go. Ms. Blue does a wonderful job of describing
the natural beauty of the area as well as discussing some of the interesting
attractions for tourists. At times, I really felt like I was standing on the
sand dunes with the heroes and I could imagine the sunrise over Blood Lake
in vivid detail.
The mysterious crying that
Ron hears is very intriguing and creepy but also very sad. Like Ron I wanted to
know more about the house and the history of the crying man. I really enjoyed
learning following the clues along with Ron. Drew is an intriguing character.
He is clearly suffering a great deal. His pain and sorrow is palpable but he is
also a good man. I really felt for him. The more about his past that is
revealed the more I wanted to know. I soon found myself hoping he would find a
way to forgive himself and move forward with Ron. Their relationship moves slowly but it feels
very realistic.
THESE HAUNTED HEIGHTS is a
moving and well-written novel by one of my favorite authors.
