Secret Service Agent Roger Malloy is having the worst time of his life. His latest assignment has gone horribly wrong and it has cost him his job. And unfortunately for Roger, his job was the only thing he had going. So what does he do? Why, he walks into a bar of course! And is masterfully seduced by a mysterious trio, who seem to know his deepest desires…the kind of desires he has never acknowledged to himself. Roger comes to find out that the female, Adria, and her two lovers, Cardin and Esteban are immortals. They are known as Watchers, and have survived for hundreds of years, hunting down vampires and exterminating them. With the help of his new lovers, he will gain the knowledge and power to become the Rememdiu, “The Cure,” and bring about the destruction of all the vampires. However, once he arrives on the path to this newfound destiny, he isn’t sure he has the heart to fulfill the Watchers’ plan.
This novella is the sequel to THE COST OF ETERNITY. I have not read the prior novel, and I sort of missed knowing the back-stories of the secondary characters the author reintroduced in THE REMEMDIU. I still enjoyed the book, as THE REMEMDIU seems to focus on characters that did not have the spotlight in the first novel. I liked the way the author shifted the focus in this book, bringing a previously secondary character to the forefront in this novel. I also liked Ms. Kersten’s take on vampire mythology, as well as the idea of the Rememdiu itself— a man whose destiny is to be “The Cure.” I found it to be an original and refreshing twist on the vampire legend.
As far as love scenes go, THE REMEMDIU was hot! Hot as in smokin’! There was fiery heat between these characters, and the author really got things done with thrilling sensuality and generous eroticism. Each character in this ménage a quatre had innate sensuality, and they all complemented each other. I also liked the strong personality attributes of each character, as they all brought something unique to the table. Adria was the lonely huntress, Cardin was the sensual anchor of the four, Esteban the tormented soul. And of course Roger, the bruised and battered hero.
In THE REMEMDIU, I really enjoyed the inner realizations that Roger comes to, the peace and self-acceptance he finds. Roger is alive for the first time, his explosive sexual encounters with his three new lovers bringing him a sense of belonging he had never experienced before. Roger was a conflicted man, aroused by men, but not willing to admit that he had the type of sexuality that could accommodate both male and female lovers. In this new foursome, he finds connections with Adria, Cardin and Esteban that are more than sexual and forms a loving bond with his group, a kind of family. I also enjoyed the fast pace of the tale, and of course the wildly hot loving! Although the book was short, it ended all set up for another sequel, which I will definitely read. This novel had some of the most scorching sex scenes I’ve ever read, and I think readers will certainly need a cold shower after finishing this read. THE REMEMDIU was a very good story, with plenty of plot twists and tension. I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in the paranormal genre.
