Princess Angelica is devastated when she finds out she will have to marry Prince Harlan, a prince in a neighboring town she has never met. Her uncle has demanded the marriage in order to have treaty with the nearby kingdom, but she doesn’t wish to marry someone she doesn’t love, much less a stranger. Worse yet, she has heard frightening tales of Prince Harlan’s wild and violent ways.

Angelica flees the castle deciding to give up her life as a princess. She runs into the woods and soon comes along a wolf pup caught in a trap. She cautiously frees the pup from the trap, aware that she is being watched. Venturing deeper into the forest, aware that a wolf is following her, she comes to a cabin with no one at home. Too tired to go on, she settles in for the night, taking a bit of food, and mending some shirts she found in return.

The next morning she is woken by the handsome owner of the cabin, Larne, whom she tells her story to. Angelica takes the man to heart, but is startled by the feelings that arise when they share a passionate kiss. She runs out of the cabin and is found by her uncle. She agrees to go back to the castle to fulfill her duty, in fear that Larne’s cabin will be discovered. Now Angelica’s only hope of escaping a loveless marriage is if Larne comes to her rescue.

THE PRINCESS AND THE WOLF is one of several short stories in the SANCTUARY MOON series. It is wonderful to know that the proceeds from the sales will go to helping abused and refused wolf-dogs and captive-bred wolves. It is a charming tale of a princess who wishes to marry only for love.  Angelica is a kind person, always helping the injured and wishing to protect the innocent, which may mean giving up her own happiness.  Linda Sole brings to life a remarkable fairy tale for grown ups. I look forward to reading more by her.
