Fisk is nothing but a swineherd ignored by everyone even his fellow herd hands Fisk’s main concern is keeping his job and surviving the winter. He expects very little else from his life until he begins having visions.
A god has chosen Fisk as his prophet and he is tasked with saving the life of a knight. He is hesitant to reveal his vision for fear of being thought cursed but he knows that he must do as his god commands and that he mustn’t let an innocent man die. After he fulfills his task his worst fear is realized as Fisk is turned out with only the clothes on his back. He is facing certain death until help arrives from an unexpected source.
Levin has been charged with protecting Fisk in gratitude for saving his mentor's life. He is determined to fulfill his duty no matter how much his charge may fight him. At first, Fisk is suspicious of his new companion but as his god continues to make demands on him, he soon comes to depend on his very own knight, the only person he can truly trust.
The plot of this story really caught my attention. The idea of an unremarkable and humble man who is thrust by fate into a situation he never wanted nor even imagined is very appealing to me. Fisk is the heart of the novel. As I read I was fascinated by the way he handled his predicament and I really enjoyed the way his character developed throughout the story. As he learns to accept and embrace his new role and the changes in his life, Fisk finds within himself the ability to love and be loved. THE NAMELESS GOD by Emily Veinglory is a unique and moving fantasy novel.
