Maen has achieved the highest position possible for a man in Aza City. He is his Mistress’ most trusted Gold Warrior. Maen has always prided himself on his devotion to his Mistress and servicing the city is his whole life. Maen has never had any reason to question his role or the rules of his society.

Every year new young men are chosen to be trained as warriors. It is an important event that also provides entertainment. When Maen sees a beautiful young man with golden hair waiting to be chosen he is entranced by him. He is so taken that he forgets his place and demands that his Mistress select the young man as a new recruit.

On the first day of training it becomes obvious that Dax is headstrong and willful. Maen is determined to turn him into a worthy solider but is disturbed to discover that he is thinking of Dax often. He realizes the new Bronzeman affects him like no other person ever has.

THE GOLD WARRIOR by Clare London is an engrossing and richly detailed fantasy story. I enjoyed every minute of this novel. The plot is filled with interesting secondary characters, and surprising developments. I enjoyed all the court intrigue, and the insight into Maen’s society. The story is told from the point of view of the title character. Maen is an intriguing man. As the story begins, he is a model citizen who never questions the status quo. However, events force him to take a look at the world he lives in. The reader really gets to know his thoughts and feelings as we follow his often painful journey as he becomes the man he was always meant to be.
