Holden Antaeus is furious with his brother Sean. Sean has ruined all of his weekend plans by declaring that all of the executives of Antaeus International are going on a mountain retreat. Holden hates the way his brother is constantly trying to run his life for him. To make matters worse he has been paired with the new financial wonder geek of the office, Garret Renquist.

From the moment they meet Garret has a strange effect on Holden. His sent seems to follow Holden everywhere and at first he can’t understand why his is drawn to the other dragon shifter. He is shocked to realize that Garret is his mate. How can his mate be male? Holden is completely straight. Holden knows if doesn’t find a way to accept his new mate; he will condemn them both to eternal misery.

FIRE SEASON is the third novel in the TALES OF THE DARKWORLD series by Lex Valentine. Each novel in the series can be read on its own. Even though this is the third novel in the series it is really a prequel to the other novels. FIRE SEASON is the first novel I have read by Ms. Valentine but it will not be the last. The author has created a distinctive and intriguing world around her characters. I also liked the fact that these characters are dragon shifters. The insight that the reader gains into the history and society of the dragons is interesting and adds another layer to the story.

I found Holden a very believable character. His conflicted feelings about having a man for a mate when he has always preferred women are very understandable. I sympathized with him and I admired his willingness to give his attraction and his feelings for Garret a chance to grow. I admired how patient and understanding Garret is with his new mate. He is also very hot. I love a man with an accent. FIRE SEASON is an enjoyable novel.
