Deputy Meeghan Nicholson takes her job very seriously. Since she’s new to the Stonepass area she hasn’t had a chance to introduce herself to the pack yet. What she doesn’t expect is to meet her mate by pulling him over for speeding.
His natural reaction upon seeing his mate is to claim her – unfortunately it’s that same instinct that leads to him being arrested instead of just receiving a ticket. Meeghan realizes that Shaun is her mate but that doesn’t mean she’s going to become his doormat. No matter how much his touch makes her body tremble he’s going to have to understand that she won’t tolerate disrespect for the law or her position.
While Meeghan feels that locking Shaun up for his crimes is a just punishment, he feels like he’s been rejected by his mate. In fact he’s so hurt that he fully intends to leave town because he can’t stand the thought of having his mate so close and not being able to be a part of her life. Meeghan’s position in law enforcement has resulted in her witnessing the seedier side of life and trusting anyone wholeheartedly isn’t something she’s willing to do. While Shaun’s under the impression that being mated means that she belongs with him and nothing should prevent that from happening, Meeghan on the other hand wants to take things slower, form a bond that’s more about who they are as people rather than let their wolves’ instincts take over. Soothing their wounded pride and insecurities proves to be a pleasurable adventure but through it all they’ll discover an emotional healing that occurs only with a mate’s touch.
After reading SCENT OF SEDUCTION I was really looking forward to getting my hands on a copy of ONLY A MATE’S TOUCH and I’m thrilled to be able to say I am not disappointed. Ms. Lane stays true to the original story but expands on it so that all the characters and situations you already care about are still present. From Charlie’s kidnapping to the situation with the super-shifters there isn’t any aspect of the storyline that isn’t carried over and expounded on.
Meeghan and Shaun’s relationship might have started out troubled but there’s no doubt that they care deeply for each other. Their mating is intense, passionate and a healing balm to the emotional pain they’ve suffered. What I especially loved about their bond is the way they accept their differences and even seem to find special pleasure in supporting each other in difficult situations.
I thoroughly enjoyed ONLY A MATE’S TOUCH and eagerly anticipate getting my hands on a copy of THE TASTE OF DEVOTION. This is a series that has completely captured my attention and imagination and I honestly hope to see many more additions to the series in the future.
ONLY A MATE’S TOUCH is the second title in Trina Lane’s PHANTOM RIVER series and while each story can be read alone I think as a reader you’ll gain more pleasure from these books if you read them in order.
Other titles in the PHANTOM RIVER series are:
SCENT OF SEDUCTION released October 3, 2011
THE TASTE OF DEVOTION releases in July 2012.
