Rynnis Lort is on trial for the murder of his fiancée Lynette Dotall. Although, the state has declared her drug overdose accidental, her parents are determined to see him punished. Rynn knows that he has little hope of release given that Lynette’s father is one of the most powerful men in the small town where Rynn grew up.  He is surprised to discover that a Sursein judge is going to preside over his trial.

Sursein Judges are very rare. They are blessed by their god, with the ability to discern truth. Rynn can’t imagine why his case deserves such special attention but when the judge rules in his favor he is very grateful. Left with no choice but to leave the only home he has ever known, to avoid crossing paths with the Dotalls, Rynn doesn’t know what he’ll do.  He is surprised once again, to learn that Judge Shasertai has agreed to allow Rynn to travel with him and his entourage to a neighboring town.

When Shas meets Rynn he is instantly attracted to him but he promises not touch the innocent young man. However, as they spend more time together Shas begins to depend on him. How will he ever let Rynn go?

I was immediately drawn into SURSEIN JUDGMENT. The author has created a very interesting and detailed world for her characters. The descriptions of Shas in a trance are also very well done. I liked the differences between Rynn and Shas. They are very different and yet they complement each other perfectly. I also enjoyed the way that Shas helps Rynn to improve himself. The way Rynn soothes him and makes him feel good just by being himself is very sweet. SURSEIN JUDGMENT is my new favorite story from author Jet Mykles.
