Eric Courtney knows that murder is a fact of life since he is a vampire living in Void City. When he is accused of killing the local Alpha werewolf's son, his life suddenly spirals out of control. The Alpha werewolf and his pack are now out for vengeance. Yet, they are the least of Eric's worries. His girlfriend Tabitha convinces him to convert her into a vampire. Tabitha's sexy sister Rachel appears on the scene with a hidden agenda of her own concerning Eric. His best friend Roger is no longer happy owning a strip club since it looks bad to all his new high-class friends. All that Eric wants to do is run the Demon Heart club, drink some blood, have a little fun, and be left alone.

Unfortunately, it seems that someone is out to put an end to Eric's existence. In his search to find out who is after him and why, Eric survives car crashes, enchanted bullets, sunlight, tantric sex magic, and werewolves on ice. He also deals with his own nasty temper, forgetfulness, and myriad mistakes along the way. Eric has issues, not the least of which is his long-term and short-term memory problems thanks to having been embalmed at the time of his death. Will Eric discover the identity of the person seeking to destroy him?  Can he survive the obstacles continuously thrown in his path? Will his undead girlfriend or her living sister melt his heart? When the dust finally settles, who will be left standing…if not actually living?

STAKED is J. F. Lewis' debut urban fantasy novel. It is a paranormal story with lots of kick, not to mention quite a bit of bite. Lewis has an innovative voice that definitely captivates his audience. Lewis' hero, Eric, is a powerful vampire possessing a quirky sense of humor. In addition to Eric's sharply acidic wit, the intense action sequences propel this story at a swift pace. From the moment you step into Eric's world, you are rocketing from one high-tension situation to another. Eric is a classic anti-hero who proves to have more going for him than would first appear, in both heart and morals. Tabitha and her sister Rachel are extremely interesting characters who each add a lot of turmoil to Eric's already exciting life. The exciting conclusion will definitely leave you breathless and wanting more. STAKED is one exciting action-adventure that paranormal and urban fantasy fans will want on their must-have list.
