Jaxx is flattered to learn that the man she indulged in unforgettable sex with is one of the legendary Imperial were-panthers but her pleasure is short-lived since the seven-foot tall man has decided that she’s his bond-mate.  Just because the sex was out of this world and she can’t get his scent or thoughts of him out of her mind doesn’t make them bond-mates – and it’s high time he realizes that just because he’s decided that they belong together doesn’t make it so!

 

Tome Rimmer doesn’t take his encounter with Jaxx lightly.  Of course he knows that she’s opposed to accepting him as her bond-mate but he’s not above doing a little creative convincing.  Were-panthers instinctively recognize their mates and as the Earth-base Stationmaster he has every right to authorize having her ship towed planet-side.  Conveniently that means that she has to ‘hitch’ a ride with him and he’ll have a few days to convince her that she is indeed his bond-mate.

 

His plans go awry soon after entering hyperspace.  His ship begins experiencing problems which he isn’t able to find an explanation for – and all reports from the ship itself show that it’s operating normally.  With limited supplies and a ship broken down in space it looks like whether or not Jaxx accepts Tome is the least of their problems.  If they can’t get the ship, affectionately named Katy, up and running they’ll die.  Will they uncover the problem before it’s too late and how will they pass the time while hoping for help to arrive?

 

MATING RITUAL is the first story in Anne Kane’s SHIFTING PRIORITIES series.  This futuristic/shape-shifter based series is off to an interesting start with this tale full of sexual tension, kick butt attitude and plenty of humor to keep the reader’s interest.  Tome and Jaxx make a wonderful couple on many levels but it’s apparent that there’s an underlying reason why Jaxx feels she cannot accept Tome as her mate.  I’ll definitely be watching for the rest of the stories in this series – something about these were-panthers and their alpha attitude just makes me want to keep coming back for more.
