Sentinel Joe Ryan is given a new assignment at the base of Arizona’s San Francisco Peaks after the death of his partner. Though the powerful mountain lion shifter enjoys watching over the mountains and protecting its inhabitants, he is aware of the motives the Sentinels have for placing him there.  Aside from shifting, Joe has a special ability in regards to power. Even though there is no real evidence, the group believes he has turned dark, using his power for immoral purposes, and is responsible for the death of his partner.

Sleek ocelot shifter, Lyn Maines, has been sent to the mountains to search for the Artum Core’s regional prince who may have fled there after losing a battle recently. She is also supposed to investigate Joe Ryan and bring in proof of whether or not he has betrayed them. At first, Lyn is sure of Joe’s guilt based on the details of the case, but the more time she spends in the mountains with him, the more her certainty wavers. She starts falling for Joe, who appeals to her inner wilder side and is afraid this is clouding her judgment.  Lyn will need Joe to stop the Artum Core prince from using the mountain’s power, but can she trust him with so many things pointing to his betrayal?
