Arel is a spy on his first assignment for the Alliance. As a secondary agent he must follow whatever orders he receives without question. His cover is that of a worker named Glen. He has been sent to the backwater planet of Rimania to gather intelligence and smooth the way for the Alliance to make contact. Arel doesn’t really want to infiltrate a feudal alien society but he knows refusing would not only be a bad career choice—it could also prove fatal.

Now that his uncle has died Tobias Smator is third in line for the Lordship. He has absolutely no desire to be the head of his family. His mother, however, has a thirst for power and she is determined to see her son make the most of his political position. He doesn’t care about politics but he is sure that his uncle was murdered and he is determined to find the culprit.

POISON by Joely Skye is an intriguing mix of sci-fi, mystery and political thriller. The author has written a multi-layered story with many twists and turns that left me in constant suspense. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. Tobias and Arel are intelligent and resourceful I enjoyed following their adventures. I was reluctant to leave this world and I hope to visit it again someday.
