Maryland, 2038 – Colin MacDuff has grown up listening to his parents tales of time travel, true love, and the power of the MacDuff brooch. From a very young age his father has groomed him in the ways of ancient warriors in preparation of the day when the brooch unites him with his love – in ancient Scotland or modern day times.
Inverness, Scotland, 1648 – Sera MacRae is finding it difficult to deal with her father Laird MacRae. He’s stolen the MacDuff brooch in a fit of vengeance for a wrong he felt done to him. Since her father is inebriated most of the time it falls to her to return the brooch. Of course her father’s insistence that she marry the MacDuff Laird is more annoying than anything else since she has no intention of marrying just to form an alliance.
After leaving the MacRae Keep, Sera rides out for the day long ride to the MacDuff’s – only before she makes it off her clan’s property she gets thrown from her horse. Her last concern before losing conscious is of the brooch and questioning if the MacDuff will ever see their precious jewel again.
Colin had been in the middle of dinner and a conversation with his parents and then whoosh… he’s in the middle of a dense forest and there’s an unconscious woman dressed in old fashioned Scottish garb. All this time he’s laughed off his parents tales of time travel but there’s no denying that he’s definitely in a different time period. Since his father’s prepared him for this possibility, Colin is accepting of the circumstances – and the beauty that is to become his wife – whether she wants to or not! Sera didn’t grow up with the tales of the power of the brooch – and why should she believe a man who claims to be Donell MacDuff’s son – a man who by her accounts should be the same age as the man he claims is his father. Sure he’s gorgeous but completely dim-witted… and how dare he tell her that she’s going to marry him.
LOVE IN A BOX is the third book in Eliza Knight’s HIGHLAND JEWELS series. After reading the first two stories I was anxious to find out just who the brooch would find love for next. The introduction of Colin is a delightful twist since we were privy to Donell and Lainie’s romance in the first story WARRIOR IN A BOX and it’s interesting to see how his going back in time affects the dynamics of the MacDuff clan. You also get to revisit Ian and Natalie from LADY IN A BOX. I loved Sera’s feisty nature and her determination not to marry just to join the clans. There’s no doubt that their union is meant to be and if the brooch’s bringing them together isn’t enough proof for you, the sexual tension between these two is certainly proof positive.
