Inverness, Scotland 1647
Ian’s brother left the title of Laird of Clan MacDuff to him just before disappearing and traveling into the future to be with his love. He’s unsure how to proceed or even inform the clan about the abrupt change in leadership so he seeks advice from Lachlann, Donell’s right hand man. The men settle on a plausible story and a course of action to ensure the clan’s comfortable and secure. In order for the whole plan to work its imperative that he marries and sire an heir but first it’s time to imbibe and celebrate.
After overindulging in ale, Ian returns to his room intending to sleep but his eyes fall upon the chest where he placed the brooch – the only thing left behind when his brother was swept into the future. There’s something alluring about the antique piece of jewelry, it’s been in the family for generations and Ian’s unable to resist rubbing his fingers against the intricately designed Celtic knots carved upon it. He hears a swoosh and fears that he has been transported to some other time and place. When he looks around though he’s still in his chamber but the brooch is missing – and the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen is sleeping in his bed and she hadn’t been there moments before.
Natalie is an avid history buff and Gaelic instructor who absolutely loves Scottish history especially the time period she finds herself thrust into. She’s stunned when she awakens in a very real erotic fantasy involving a Highlander but chalks it up to a dream – either that or her best friend set the whole thing up – complete with an authentic looking keep and clan members.
As shocked as Natalie is to learn that she’s really been swept back in time, she has to admit to a deep-seated desire to remain with Ian rather than return to 2008, but she has a life and friends who would worry about her. Will Natalie opt to remain with Ian or will she chose to return to modern times and leave her newfound love behind?
I’ve really come to enjoy Eliza Knight’s THE HIGHLAND JEWELS. I admit to a love of Scottish Highlanders and probably have over romanticized them but that’s what I so enjoy about reading this sort of story – it allows you to live out your fantasy vicariously through the characters. LADY IN A BOX is a fun-filled read full of passion, wonder, mystery and a bit of hopefulness. It’s a story you can feel good about spending time reading and leaves you with a smile on your face.
If you haven’t read the first book in the series, WARRIOR IN A BOX is available now as well and contains Donell’s story – which was also a real treat to read. There will also be another book released soon called LOVE IN A BOX J
