StarQuest Saga, Book 6 – Best Friends Forever

As children Kefira and Tad vowed to be best friends forever but insecurities and misunderstandings have resulted in a feeling of betrayal and years of silence between them.  Kefira’s the first child born of a human female and Miratan male and she’s retained many of the lion traits of her father’s kind – including a tail.  Tad Barton is the human son of the World Federation’s former president and he’s endowed with powerful extrasensory Talents.  

As young people, their differences and the very things that make them special also make them the butt of other’s jokes.  The jokes are what drove a wedge between them but that’s all about to change because they’ve been requested for a special assignment and will be forced to work together for the next two years – after a two week journey to the Sentient planet BoldCené.  Only the trip doesn’t exactly go according to plan and they discover that the ship meant to carry them to BoldCené has a unique feature that dulls their Talents.  If Kefira and Tad can’t find a way to unite and bring back the full power of their Talents then they won’t survive this trip.  Will they rediscover the feelings for each other that they’ve tried so hard to suppress all these years?

BEST FRIENDS FOREVER is a futuristic/paranormal story that delivers quite a punch.  Kefira and Tad’s relationship suffered as a direct result of childhood teasing but it’s apparent that their feelings for each other have never wavered.  What I found inspiring about these characters is how they seem to take pleasure in their differences as well as similarities – prejudice still exists but they rise above it.

Don’t worry if you haven’t read the rest of the STARQUEST saga.  BEST FRIENDS FOREVER can easily be read alone but if you’re anything like me you’ll end up having to go back and pick up copies of the rest of the books in the series simply because Kate Douglas does such an amazing job at world building with highly memorable characters.
