Jax is desperate for a woman, so desperate that he buys a slave woman and brings her back to his safe house for his yearly mating cycle. Jax has twenty-four hours of hell upon him and only the woman can provide him with some minor relief. But as Jax discovers, this mating cycle is unlike any other. Jax wonders if it has something to do with the woman, Waverly. With Waverly in his arms, Jax feels relief, joy, and a burning sensuality that is somehow calmer and more controlled than his previous cycles.


Waverly is confused when she wakes up from a drug-induced sleep to discover that she has been sold as a slave to Jax. In reality, Waverly is a transport pilot on a mission of her own and now Jax is just in the way. It seems Waverly has been double-crossed and the trouble is just beginning. Jax’s safe house is under attack and they need to get out of there. Thus begins their journey of danger, laughter, and the searing knowledge that though they had a very unconventional first meeting, there is something special between Jax and Waverly. But will they live to experience the joys of love and mating?

IN HEAT is a rollicking space adventure! You will experience the twists and turns of flying in space, the heat of blasters as they extinguish enemies, and the sparking tension between the two lead characters. Jax’s goal has always been to head to his home of Jimlee and prove his innocence. He never expected love to find him while he was in exile from his culture and roots. But what he finds with Waverly is the true sense of home and love. I truly enjoyed every moment spent with these characters. Waverly is intelligent, she is a fighter, and she is not afraid to do what needs to be done, whether that be killing an enemy or protecting Jax. Her heart overflows with kindness, even as her tough outer shell has helped her survive in the harsh world of Sector 12 where violence is an everyday occurrence. Love cannot be denied, even as much as Waverly does not want to let Jax into her heart. Leigh Wyndfield had me on the edge of my seat throughout this tale. Deception, subterfuge, and danger add elements of thrills and chills to this tale but it is the stunning love story between Jax and Waverly that makes this story a cut above the rest.
