Milagro de los Santos, Miracle of the Saints, once a lovable party girl, who became the only known human to escape death from a deadly vampire infection, is back with her on-again, off-again lover, Ian Ducharme.  Due to the infection, she has many of the attributes of a vampire; extraordinary eyesight, great strength, runs fast and heals fast.  But, unlike a vampire, she can walk in the sunlight.  Since she ruined her engagement to Dr. Oswald by sleeping once more with Ian, she is living her own life in her condo with frequent trips to Ian’s home, which she despises.  He has tried to get her to move in with him, but she has resisted. Her attraction to him is very strong, but she does not quite trust him, as he has too many secrets.  Having a creative writing degree from a Fancy University, F.U., she has still only been able to sell a fauxoir, false memoir to those not in the know, to Don Pedro, an eccentric who received most of the money and all of the fame, to her chagrin.

Ian Ducharme is also known as the Dark Lord, but he is the Director of the Vampire Council and performs deeds for the good of vampires, though not always in the most wholesome of ways.  He is the one man who knows all of Milagro’s quirks and still cares for her.  Usually he is the one there for her in her time of trouble.  Extremely wealthy, he has recently bought an albatross of a house, though Milagro cannot understand why.  Still, she visits him there whenever she can.  He is often off on trips, though he keeps his reasons for his absences secret from Milagro.  Over the years, he has returned from his trips with gifts for her…gifts she has kept, even taking them with her wherever she goes.

Knowing he is returning home from his latest trip, Milagro takes her male dog, Rosemary, named thus for remembrance, and she goes to Ian’s home.  She is skinny-dipping and talking to Ian, when his neighbors Cricket and Ford come over to meet them.  Cricket is very taken with Ian and openly flirts with him, annoying Milagro.  Everything is fine until the night she goes to the party he is having at his home, though he did not invite her, and she sees Ian snacking on Cricket.  She does the only thing she can think of…she runs.

At home, with the scenes of Ian and Cricket going through her mind, she answers the phone when Don Pedro calls.  He wants her to write a subsequent fauxoir for him and invites her to London.  At first, she turns him down. But when he mentions the exorbitant fee she will get, she relents. So, fighting her broken heart, she goes to England to meet with Don and with the intention to hook up with Wilcox Spiggott, a vampire who is fighting to bring vampires out of the closet, so they can live like normal people.  She figures he can show her a better way to live with her condition.  But can he heal a broken heart?

Wonderfully wacky, HAUNTED HONEYMOON, the latest in the MILAGRO DE LOS SANTOS series, is an adventurous and suspense-filled paranormal romance.  After England, Milagro returns home and ends up being found with not one, but two dead bodies, as no one knows about the third one in her truck.  She is soon kidnapped, tortured and chased, ending up once more at Dr. Oswald’s home with amnesia.  Soon she is attending a wedding, which, I believe I can safely say, is unlike any wedding that has ever been.  Beautifully enhanced with danger, sizzling hot sex scenes, an imaginative and diabolical plot, witty repartee, vampires, zombies and a wonderfully poignant ending, which nearly brought me to tears, this story will be remembered long after the last page is turned and the book is closed.  I have read all of this author’s books, and I look forward to reading more of her extraordinary and hilarious works.
