Jayne Davis has suffered multiple losses in her life, and it takes her friend Megan finding love to make her see she that needs a change. All her instincts tell her that the path to change is tied up in a man who clearly thinks that being alone is the way to live. While at Megan’s wedding, Jayne and Cameron share an encounter that is about to upset their worlds more then they realize.
Cameron Murray knows what it’s like to lose all that you love, and he has decided that he will fight fate and the natural instincts he possesses. Love is not worth the risk, but when he meets Jayne he finds his carefully laid plans are beginning to crumble. As he searches for a lost friend and fellow shifter, he sees a pattern begin to emerge, one that marks Jayne as a possible victim. He knows that protecting Jayne is a risk that she’s his mate and that being with her may force him to make a decision he’s avoided for so long.
Together they begin a journey, one that is rife with danger and could cost them more then either of them can afford.
Cameron comes across as stubborn and aloof, yet endearing in his own way. As the story progresses, Ms. Miller slowly reveals the secrets that he is hiding and exposes his fears in way that you have no choice but to empathize with Cameron. While you want at times to shake him to make him see that what he and Jayne feel for each other is genuine, you can certainly see why he is the way he is. His actions are infuriating, but he is just so likable you can’t help but care about him.
Jayne is strong and very much in a rut. Her life has become all work and no play. Just like the saying goes, it has made Jayne a very dull girl. You have to applaud her though, throughout the whole story Cameron tries to discourage her, yet she keeps plugging away at him until he opens up to her and tells her what she needs to know. She is a heroine that any reader will relate to. From the very beginning of the story, you can’t help but like her. She holds her own against Cameron and her willingness to embrace the fantastic makes her the perfect compliment to Cameron.
