Oliver Russell has been completely oblivious to Hazel’s feelings up until the pack alpha mentioned her precarious position and the trouble it’s causing amongst the young men in town.  He has every intention of letting her down easy but quickly realizes that Hazel’s suppressed her inner wolf too long and she needs relief now – before it’s too late.

 

Hazel finally reached the conclusion that she can’t wait for Oliver anymore and selects one of the young suitors who’s showed interest in helping her with her first mating cycle.  Only Hazel’s inner wolf isn’t willing to accept any man other than Oliver touching her.  Oliver finds her horse and assumes that she’s been attacked but Hazel quickly tells him that the horse threw her.  She doesn’t bother to mention what happened with the man she’d tried to use to satisfy her inner wolf.  Hazel tries to leave Oliver’s presence before her desire and need for him overwhelm her but Oliver’s protective instinct and realization that she’s actually making herself ill by suppressing her needs pushes him into making a split second decision.

 

Oliver agrees to ease her through the mating cycle but that’s all he’s willing to offer.  He’s been a widower for the past five years and isn’t ready or willing to allow another woman into his life or heart, but there’s something about Hazel that calls to him.  Especially once he discovers that she loves it when he unleashes his beast and gets down and dirty and a bit rough during sex – something his wife didn’t appreciate.  Once the mating cycle eases reality returns but is there any hope for a happily-ever-after when Oliver refuses to acknowledge that they have anything more than friendship?

 

CALLING THE BLUFF is the second story in Moira Rogers’ DOWN & DIRTY series.  If you read the first story, WILD CARD, then like me, I’m sure you were anxious to read Oliver and Hazel’s story and I’m pleased to tell you CALLING THE BLUFF is every bit as intense, hot, and memorable as I’d anticipated.  All the years Hazel’s invested in loving Oliver make her a character that readers can empathize with and her heartache and confusion quickly become your own.  This is the perfect follow up to WILD CARD and I’ll definitely be watching for the next story which is due to be released in May.  ANTE UP will have the Lonely River Pack’s beta Thomas and Charlotte, the owner of the Full Moon Saloon and looks to be very promising.
