DOING THYME is a clever title since the hero, Ross Lovell is a prisoner at the beginning of the tale. For years he’s done “time,” trying to find a way to control his inner rage.

Ross hadn’t understood that his out-of-bounds emotions were the result of an alien/human inter-breeding experiment run by the governments of Earth and the Laetez. The discovery only increases his anger. No psychologist had been able to reach him until Counselor, the doctor who has been working with him for the last four years. Now he’s about to be released from prison. Because he feels such guilt over his past deeds and because he truly doesn’t trust that he can keep his emotions in check, he chooses to accept a position on a remote planet where he will be virtually alone for at least three years.

For four years, Thyme Westcott has counseled Ross Lovell, a violent half-breed incarcerated in an ACT (Alien Conversion Testing) facility. The moment she saw him she knew how special he was. Other counselors had already given up on him but she is determined to make a difference in his life. And she has. Over the years, he talks about himself, his anger at what he is and the reason for his violent nature—that his human father had mated with a Laetez—had been kept from him. Thyme comes to love the man he reveals during his sessions. So much so that by their last meeting, he is the most important person in her life. Her attachment is more than emotional. She feels such physical attraction for him, it’s as though her world will end if she can’t at least touch him.

As a patient, Ross is strictly off limits. More, during counseling sessions, the therapist is behind one-way glass and her voice is synthesized. Ross knows her only as Counselor and has no idea what she looks like or even that she’s a woman. Thyme knows there’s no way he can care for her. But what if… Would he if he met her under different circumstances? She decides to take the chance and find out.

When Thyme arranges to be on the planet where Ross is stationed as manager of a planetary laboratory, things don’t happen quite as she expects. In fact, the stage is set for the whole, dang planet to explode. Is the cause a severe storm that’s released a deadly gas, or is it the heat of passion raging out of control?

I truly enjoyed this novella. The pace is fast, and the sexy inter-action between Ross and Thyme is even faster. I won’t give away the surprise, but suffice it to say, Ross can control himself plenty well enough to give Thyme a great ride. The action outside the bed is just as exciting. This is a quick read you won’t regret picking up.
