Busy attorney Randall MacAllister agrees to take some time off and keep an eye on his two mischievous twin sisters while his mother, who just happens to be the High Priestess of the Witches Council, goes out of town to take care of some important business. Magic runs strongly in the females of the family, and Rand in not keen on watching his siblings, whom he’s dubbed “The Demon Duo”, known for running amuck. As soon as he arrives he finds them trying to perform a spell in a book that was deemed off-limits. He catches them by surprise just as their spell goes awry and he gets turned into a Scottie dog in the crossfire. While giving into a strange urge to chase a neighborhood cat,
Rand is struck by a SUV. Thankfully the driver just happens to be a vet. It doesn’t hurt that she’s easy on the eyes either.
Veterinarian Amanda Livingston has had little luck with romance and men, so she has decided to stick to her job of taking care of animals instead. The furry little critters seem to appreciate her more anyway. Still, she can’t help but feel lonely and long for a special someone, especially when she’s sitting alone in her apartment. While driving home one day, she accidentally hits a little Scottie dog with her vehicle when he suddenly runs out in front of her, chasing after a cat. Amanda hastily takes the dog to her office to treat it and is immediately drawn to the cute bundle of fur. After discovering he has no tags, she decides to take him, naming him Alistair. Soon Randall, aka Alistair, becomes her number one confidante, but she has no idea she is pouring her heart out to a pooch.
Rand is enthralled by Amanda the minute he sets eyes on her, and when he discovers her love of Barry Manilow, he knows he’s found heaven. Of course, things would be even more heavenly if he was sleeping in her bed as a human instead of a dog. Then he gets a break and temporarily turns into a man again, allowing him to woo Amanda properly. They hit it off immediately, just like Rand knew they would, but
Rand has no idea how long he has until he turns back into a canine. Will
Rand be able to break the spell before Amanda finds out her new love interest is none other than the dog she rescued?
DOGSPELL is a fun-filled tale that had me panting in a few places. Lizzie T. Leaf delivers a light-hearted romantic comedy with a cute paranormal twist. Her characters and their antics make for an amusing read and I greatly enjoyed the interactions between them throughout the story. I found myself won over by the hero, in both his human form and his canine form, and the heroine is just as charming. The romance that develops, even in the unbelievable circumstances that are presented is pulled off nicely. It is a sweet, sensuous story that warms the heart and brings laughter to the surface. DOGSPELL is sure to have you reaching for Ms. Leaf’s other releases.
