Tannar has been given the duty of finding lifesaving medicine for her village. After locating the medicine, she realizes that even though she is still two days from home, she is going to have to go into hiding because she is being ruthlessly hunted. Morjan women such as she are highly sought after because of their sexual abilities. Once they are taken off land, however, they soon sicken and die. But that doesn’t stop them from being continuously hunted. Tannar must go underground and continue to elude the men stalking her if she is going to complete her mission. Her body, however, has other plans. It has decided to go into heat and once that happens, Tannar’s ability to refuse male sexual advances becomes null and void.

Nicolas Rentard is a guard in his king’s service. Given the duty of taking the royal prince hunting, Nicolas is ordered to find the Morjan woman who has eluded the hunters for days. Since Nicolas is also able to detect scents, finding the woman is a piece of cake. It’s keeping his hands off of her that is going to be a challenge.

I love the plot and storyline of DESERT HEAT. Nicolas and Tannar epitomize the hunter and hunted. Due to the demands of their bodies, those titles don’t mean a thing. While Tannar knew she would be physically incapable of denying Nicolas, I like how her characterization was written in that she made a conscious choice to be with him. Nicolas’ feelings for Tannar were more basic due to his shape shifting ability. His inner animal scented Tannar and was never going to let her go. The entire premise of predator and prey made me shiver in anticipation and I have to admit, DESERT HEAT really delivered.
