Autum McGinnis wants to help in her friends' crusade against the Esri. However, she's not Sitheen so she generally helps on the research end of things. She gets her chance to help one night when she's needed as an extra set of eyes to guard the gate. On this night four Esri escape into the human world. Autumn feels like a failure after she catches an Esri, only to let him go again. This makes her even more determined to prove herself. When she meets a man named Kade Smith who claims he's having dreams predicting danger for her friends, Autum feels an instant attraction that she's never felt with another man, but she's not sure if Kade is someone to trust. He'll have to be put through a test.
Kade succeeds in joining up with the Sitheen, but he can tell they still don't fully trust him. He's thankful that Autumn is not Sitheen though she is friends with them. He's feeling an attraction to her that he didn't anticipate, and he's glad he won't have to kill her also. However, the longer they work together the more Kade finds himself struggling with who he really is. Which side will he join in the end?
DARK DECEIVER is another wonderful tale of magic and good versus evil from Pamela Palmer. After reading The Dark Gate I couldn't wait for more, and DARK DECEIVER doesn't disappoint. In fact, it's got me anxiously anticipating yet more books about the Sitheen and the Esri. Autumn and Kade are pulled together from the very beginning. They each have their reasons for trying to stay apart, but fate has other plans for them. Kade struggles with his attraction to Autumn and his need to do his duty to his Court. Which will win over his heart, the home he's always known, or the woman he's coming to care for?
