On the surface, Jonas leads a very normal and pious life. He is a hard worker and a dutiful son who attends Sabbath dinner with his parents every Saturday. He even endures his mother’s attempts to find him a wife without complaint even though he has absolutely no interest in women or marriage. Jonas is attracted to other men and while there is no societal or legal reason why he cannot indulge his feelings, unfortunately for Jonas his father fervently believes that homosexuality is disgusting and evil. His is the leader of a growing movement to persecute people like Jonas. He must keep his inclinations carefully hidden or risk being disowned or worse.

The only outlet for his urges that Jonas allows himself is to visit one of the many legal brothels in the city. It is at one of these brothels that he meets Micah. Micah is the most beautiful man that he has ever seen and the attraction between them is explosive but can Micah ever see him as more than just a client?

The world the author has created is very well developed and very intriguing. It feels familiar yet it has some fascinating sci-fi elements. I found the different powers that some people have fascinating. The insight the reader gains into the legal system and religious beliefs made the setting come to life. Jonas and Micah are both very appealing as individuals. I found a lot to admire about both of them. Particularly, Micah’s determination to raise his niece as his own no matter the difficulty and Jonas willingness to fight against the injustice his father was helping to perpetrate. CLIENT PRIVILEGES by Mia Strong is a charming and absorbing fantasy romance novel.
