Megan Warden is the Enforcer for the Cascadia werewolf pack. She’s accompanying her mother, married sisters and her grandmother from Seattle to L.A. to attend a wedding but listening to her mother nag her about her unmated status is almost more than she can bear. Spending a week with the women of her family seemed like fun but being stuck in a car with them definitely leaves much to be desired.
Shane Rosario isn’t exactly thrilled to be attending his relative’s wedding. In fact if he wasn’t already aware that his anchor bond, Layla, would be there he might have passed up the wedding altogether. His mother has raised him to deny his wolf nature and so he lives outside a pack and works as a doctor in Las Vegas.
Megan’s never met Shane but she’s been asked to retrieve him from the airport. While she waits for his plane to arrive Megan settles in an airport bar to watch the ball game which is where he finds her. At first he’s unaware of who she is but his wolf recognizes the otherness in her and his hormones kick in despite his vow to himself to only date human women. The attraction between them is immediate but there’s an issue right off the bat - he’s her sister’s anchor bond. Just knowing that Layla and he share a prior bond bothers Megan but that doesn’t stop her from giving in to her libido and allowing him to claim her.
Their relationship is anything but easy. Megan is proud of her heritage and can’t imagine living outside of her pack. Her rank alone is something to be very proud of and not something easily achieved. Shane’s not ready to give up his life in Las Vegas. He’s a respected doctor but Megan soon realizes that his life is very empty and his friends superficial. There’s no way she can live like that - even for him! Their physical distance is certainly an issue but the hurtful misunderstandings and anger of each others unwillingness to change their lifestyles in order to accommodate each other could threaten any love they may have. Can Shane learn to accept his animalistic side despite a lifetime of being told it was wrong? Will Megan still be willing to accept him as her mate even if he never transforms to run with her?
Lauren Dane’s CASCADIA WOLVES stories are eagerly anticipated by werewolf romance fans. FATED delivers the emotional impact I’ve come to expect from Ms. Dane’s storylines. Megan and Shane make an amazing couple and the heat between them is intense enough to leave readers envious. I loved getting the opportunity to revisit beloved characters from earlier books and really enjoyed how the pack members relate to each other. After reading this series for so long I feel like I genuinely know each of these characters and always look forward to meeting new additions to the Cascadian pack.
