The J Psy are a powerful and important group in Psy society and Sophia Russo is at the top of her game. Unfortunately, this portends bad news because to be at the height of your profession, for the J’s, means that your rehabilitation time is nearing. Sophia knows her time is upon her, but first she wants to put the cruel and sadistic “Butcher of Park Avenue” behind bars permanently. Working on the case with her is Enforcement detective Max Shannon. From their first meeting, the heat and tension between them rises to the forefront. Sophia knows it can never go anywhere. After all, she is under the cover of Silence and on top of that, her death is imminent.

When Sophia and Max get assigned to a special case together to help Psy Councilor Nikita Duncan discover who is murdering her top people, they are thrown into closer quarters and closer intimacy. Their connection is growing but it is very difficult for Sophia because skin on skin contact has been forbidden for her for four years. How will they overcome something so basic but so very important to their fragile feelings?

Max wants to protect Sophia but he also recognizes that she is strong and has had to be in order to survive as a J Psy. He does not want to lose her, but a J Psy has a limited amount of years before their shields are broken and they become empty shells. With two important cases weighing on their minds amidst a growing passion for each other, will these two find a way to beat the odds?

BONDS OF JUSTICE is the newest book in the Psy/Changeling series and yet again, Nalini Singh knocks the ball out of the park. New details about the Psy world are revealed while long time enemies start to shift into something else. Max and Sophia, despite their intimacies with the laws of justice, seem a very unlikely pair but it is their differences that make this relationship shine. They bounce ideas off each other, they argue about the law, and they play off each other’s strengths. Sophia is a force to be reckoned with and she meets Max head on as they attempt to solve their cases.

The danger is full force in this book and as usual, I was pulled into the secrets that Ms. Singh releases about her world. The romance is always wonderful but somehow those tidbits about what make up the Psy, and what is breaking them apart, are just as fundamental to my enjoyment.

BONDS OF JUSTICE was not the novel I was expecting but it turned out to be a story I relished. The continued presence of past characters added to my satisfaction but by far, my interest was held by Max and Sophia. BONDS OF JUSTICE tempts you inch by inch to discover more about the world of the Psy and Changelings!
