Anica Revere is a witch, but she prefers dating non-magical men to magical men.  However, before she gets too involved with them, she lets them know that she is a witch.  The one time she waited too late to let a non-magical man know, he had taken off running without his clothes and a police officer was riding by at the time.  He was arrested, using a leaflet as a fig leaf substitute and it was caught on the video camera Anica’s neighbor, Julie, had set up.  Julie’s brother has an independent cable show, No So Shy Chi-Town and the tape was aired on his show.  Anica lives with her cat Orion and she has a nosey landlady, Edna.  She has a sister, who is irresponsible; Anica is the responsible one.

Jasper Dane has been dating Anica for three weeks.  He had fallen for her at first sight and he could imagine a future with her, something he had not done with his previous girlfriends.  The minute he saw Anica at her coffee shop, he had broken up with his girlfriend Sheila and then gained Anica’s sympathy when he played off how broken hearted he was over the breakup with Sheila.  He had played this game before, blaming the girl for the breakup and gaining the new girlfriend’s sympathy.  However, this time his feelings for Anica were real.  He only hopes she does not find out about his past behavior.

Anica had been dating Jasper for three weeks now and things were beginning to heat up.  So she decided to go ahead and tell him about herself after they returned from dinner.  Deciding to take dessert home with them, she excused herself to go to the restroom before leaving the restaurant.   Jasper had seen Sheila at the bar and he knew that he had to keep the two women apart.  However, while in the restroom, Sheila came in and introduced herself.  Sheila was shocked when she discovered that Jasper told Anica that she broke up with him, instead of vice versa.  Sheila let her know that this was Jasper’s routine, but even knowing this, Sheila was willing to take him back.  At first, Anica did not believe her, so she decided to ask Jasper.  When she asked him if he broke up with Sheila, he lied, in the beginning, but he eventually told her the truth.  As they walked along on the way home, she broke up with him as he tried to wiggle his way out of it. However, he only ended up making her so furious that she turned him into a cat.  She had never done anything like that before; it was against the rules to change a being from one form into another.  As she researched, trying to find a way to turn him back, she discovered that she had lost her powers.  She only had one option; she called her delighted sister to help her against her better judgment.  They continually try to turn him back into a man with little success.  Will he have to remain a cat for the rest of his life?  If they succeed in turning him back, how will he extract his revenge?  Will Anica get her powers back?

BLONDE WITH A WAND is a delightfully humorous paranormal romance.  The scene where Jasper, as a cat, tries to be friends with Anica’s cat, Orion, is hilarious and heartwarming.  As a cat, Jasper seems to feel for others more than he did as a man.  Though he cannot speak, he can type…very slowly…whatever he wants to say to her.  This experience is very life changing for Jasper and he sees how bad his behavior had been.  Now if only he can become a man again.  Filled with hilarity, romance, a creative and imaginative plot, charismatic characters, magic and plenty of witches, this story is a delight.  I really enjoyed this story and I look forward to reading the sequel CHICK WITH A CHARM, coming out in March.  As I await the release of author Vicki Lewis Thompson’s next book, be sure to grab your own copy of BLONDE WITH A WAND.  I do not believe anyone with a pulse will regret it!
