ANGEL’S WOLF is a story that features the world and mythology of Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series but it is a story that stands easily on its own, with full characters and just enough world building to satisfy readers who have no knowledge of the Guild Hunter series. Nimra and Noel build a slow trust and it is a beautiful thing when it blooms.

Karina Tucker was just driving her daughter and some classmates home from a field trip when her world is torn apart by monsters and demons. A routine potty break goes horribly awry when Karina is bitten by a monster and then deemed a donor. Just what that means for her is going to utterly change her world.
ALPHAS: ORIGINS is nonstop action. Karina has to face off with a man who changes into a terrible monster, a killing machine, then needs her blood to survive the pain afterwards. It is not an easy life to be sure but somehow Karina slowly proves herself up to the challenge. I do not know if this story is connected to anything else by Ilona Andrews but, having read nothing else by this author before, this story is something any reader can jump into. It is explosive and not easy but it provides an interesting way for romance to develop.

NOCTURNE by Sharon Shinn
Moriah has worked hard to stay hidden from angels. She is currently hired at the Gabriel School, on the night rotation, cleaning and starting breakfast. It is not an easy existence but she is at the ends of the earth. Who will find her here? Then Moriah spies her worst fear: an angel. They are smug, ruthless, and have no care for humans so why is she getting to know Corban? He is blind and alone, stuck in his misery. Will she be the woman to show him that he can fly and soar once again?
Sharon Shinn crafts a special story of a human and angel in NOCTURNE. Moriah is not an easy woman to get to know, using sarcasm to hide the hurt inside. But Corban is trying hard to fly again, blind or not, and she cannot help but respond to those efforts. Their love story is not a smooth glide in the sky but it is a powerful trip indeed, filled with music and heart.

ASCENSION by Meljean Brook
Marc Revoire is hunting a demon. He does not need help but when his ex-lover, Radha, shows up to offer assistance, he cannot refuse. He still has a soft spot for her, despite the way things ended between them. Radha wants to believe that Marc, a stoic Guardian, is still indifferent and cruel but she realizes that that she is very wrong. He is a warrior with angelic powers but that power does not stop him from feeling alone. As Radha and Marc investigate the deaths in his community, feelings resurface with a potent resurgence.
Meljean Brook is always, always good for an engaging story and ASCENSION is no different. Marc and Radha have a very subtle chemistry that plays out on the pages of this short story magnificently. Marc is serious about his duties but Radha makes him remember the justice and joy that comes with being a Guardian. This is a very intriguing “angel” novella, with just enough mythology to make me interested in investigating the full-length Guardian books from Meljean Brook.

ANGELS OF DARKNESS is compelling and different enough to stand out from other paranormal anthologies on book store shelves right now. These authors are incredible!
