Favorites and Fun Questions

Which flower is your favorite? Why did you pick this one?

Yellow roses. They're the only flowers my husband ever gives to me.

Interview

Hi Isabelle and welcome. I am so glad you could join us here at
RomanceJunkies. To start, will you please tell us a little bit about
your current projects?

I've just had two projects released. In October, ONE LAST FAREWELL was released by Midnight Showcase, and in December, two of my favorite short stories came out as WHISKEY SHOT #13 from Whiskey Creek Press. All of these are historical romances, but set in very different time periods. ONE LAST FAREWELL is set in Vienna and in Poland in the late 18th century. THE THOUGHT OF YOU is a WWII era short, and RANSOM FOR A VIKING is set during the golden age of the Vikings.

Is there any one thing you would change about the way you write? Do you have music in the background? Are you an outliner, or do you write by the "seat of your pants"?

No, not really. I write in the manner I do because of who I am and where I am in my life. I have kids, and so frequently write romantic scenes with Sponge Bob or The Magic School Bus playing in the background. I have to drive my third grader and my husband off of the computer in order to write. I generally do most of my writing after ten at night or before seven in the morning. But I think that writing is more precious to me because it's not always easy to find the time.

I am definitely a "seat of my pants" author. However, I do collaborate with my sister, Audrey Tremaine, on some works. Then, we do full outlines before we start anything. Otherwise, it's too difficult working together.

Every writer dreams of getting "the call". Do you remember what you were doing when that moment came? How did you celebrate?

With each and every story, you wait for the "call."

Each time and every time I sit down to write, I wonder will this be the book or story I'm meant to write. As far as getting the call, I think that my definition of the call has changed. Getting a book published is great, but then there's the whole getting the word out issue. I would have to say I feel most triumphant about a work when, several months after writing it, I reread it and enjoy it. It's strange, but I find it almost surprising that these stories came out of my mind.

A new writer comes to you crying: "Help me! Help me! I want to be
published!" What advice do you give them?

Keep writing and define your own success.

Name three traits a writer must possess.

Discipline, creativity, and perseverance.

Which room in your home is your favorite? Which one would you love to wave a magic wand and change?

I like my bedroom. I love lying in bed with my husband and kids at night watching a movie. If I could wave a wand and change something about my house, I would invoke a cleaning and decluttering spell.

Lucky day! You have just found out you can travel anywhere you want; no plans need to be made, no expense is spared! Where are you going?

I'd like to visit Italy, Spain, and Paris, of course.

When a food craving strikes, are you more likely to turn to something sweet or something salty? How often do you give in?

I'm a chocoholic. Dark chocolate Hershey bars are a must for me. I need my fix of chocolate each day.

How did you and your husband meet? What was it about him that made you know he was "the one"?

We met on a blind date, and I knew he was the one because in addition to being very tall and hunky, he made me laugh, and still does.

What is this romance writer's idea of the "perfect romantic evening"?

This requires some thought. We have three kids, so romantic evenings can be few and far between. At this point in our marriage, love thrives in stolen moments, in shared experiences and laughs. Still, my idea of a romantic evening would involve carry out food, a bottle of wine, a good movie which we would watch in bed. (The whole bed/movie thing seems to be a repeated theme for me.)

How do you describe Isabelle Kane? How does Isabelle Kane's husband describe her?

I hope I have a good sense of humor. I think I'm clever and I am loving. I love juicy gossip and good books. I love kids and nature. I can be moody and absent minded, but I'm good fun.

As far as how my husband would describe me, well, he comes of Norwegian stock, and this isn't the kind of question he would be inclined to publicly answer.

MORE FUN...

The holidays are drawing closer by the day! EEEKKK!!! Are you one of
those people who's ready in November, or one who is happily   shopping Christmas Eve? What is your favorite holiday tradition?

My favorite holiday tradition is watching my kids open their presents in the morning. I used to like wrapping presents with my husband on Christmas Eve while watching The Christmas Story, but now it's rather stressful as my oldest son is up almost every hour scouting for Santa. He's also a very light sleeper. So, now we've had to move present wrapping and storage to my mother-in-law's.

Are you a bath person or a shower person?

Shower, who has time for a bath?

What is your favorite menu to prepare for dinner guests?

Lasagna and Caesar salad.

And lastly, no interview of a writer would be complete without this
question: what is your favorite comfort food?

I love Hot Fudge Sundays, but as I'm closer to forty than I am to twenty, I go to Dark Chocolate rather than digging into the Ben & Jerry's.

Thank you, Isabelle, for spending time with us—it has been most fun!   And continued success with your writing in the future!
