Miss Sinclair is 25 years old and should be on the shelf - self destined wallflower. She does not wish to marry, she would rather have a good time with her adventures - her UNLADYLIKE PURSUITS. Freedoms that can only come to a woman that is off the marriage market or widowed. Nevertheless, her stepmother and father have other plans for her. Edward and Beatrice Sinclair feel Emily needs a firm hand to control her spiritedness. Therefore, an arrangement is made for Emily to marry Beatrice's Cousin Richly. Emily will not hear of it! She pleads with her father to give her one month to procure a proposal from a suitable man. The challenge is Emily biggest problem she is too fussy; that each possible suitor has something wrong with him. They have fatal flaws - not spirited enough, needing money, wanting an heir, plain looking and so forth.

Then one day, she literally runs into an extremely handsome man - so dark and dangerous. This arrogant man who failed to show his manners - stirred her blood and haunts thoughts like no other.

Brandon "Brand" Davenport never plays by the rules, especially his father's. After years of controlling behavior, Brand goes into the military but discovers it's not for him. Brand sets out on his own making his own fortune and rules while in the Indies. He is called back to England because his father is nearing death. Who is still trying to force Brand to marry and take responsibilities of his position as heir to Viscountcy. He runs to his friend, Lord Colin Willoughby, in Devon where he meets Emily in one of the most messiest of situations - she lands in a mud puddle.

Events, usually her UNLADYLIKE PURSUITS, throw them together time and again. Emily sets her sights on Brand as a husband candidate while he is not in the least interested. But Brand can't seem to escape her spell. Can they find love with each other?

Alyssa Goodnight has written one of the most elegant stories that I have read in a long time. As the old adage goes: a picture is worth a thousand words; as in Alyssa Goodnight's case her words paint a masterpiece. Her style draws you into the time period to such a degree that you can feel the sophistication, grandeur, class, etc. I would rank Alyssa Goodnight's work with Kathleen Woodiwiss. I am honored to give this awesome book, UNLADYLIKE PURSUITS, Romance Junkie's highest honor - 5 ribbons
