Maida despises the Norsemen.  Their raids on Saxon land has cost the church so many artifacts and instilled fear into her friends and family.  Despite her hatred of them, killing a man is not something she’d do.  However, Tor isn’t willing to listen to her protests and he’s certainly not going to believe her story about what truly happened.  There’s no hope of escape therefore Maida must endure whatever punishment Tor dishes out and hope that once he comes to know her he’ll realize his mistake.

 

Before Tor could get Maida restrained and onboard his vessel headed for his home he’s confronted by Ralston and suffers a slice to his right arm.  Maida knows this injury is severe but Tor insists he’s suffered worse and refuses to acknowledge the pain or Maida’s concern.  That is, until they reach Denmark and he’s noticeably weaker and very ill.  Maida volunteers to use her own skills to doctor him since there is no one else available with the skills to do so.  During the course of this uneasy truce Tor realizes his error and vows to return her to England, but how can he bear to let her go when he’s just discovered how much he wants to keep her? 

 

Ellen Margret lends her writing talents to a very worthy cause with her short story TOR: VIKING MASTER.  These characters are bright and lively with convictions and opinions which they feel strongly about – and lead to some heated discussions and imaginative situations.  While the reader is made aware that Maida did not kill Tor’s brother, we’re not given the full scope of the circumstances surrounding the murder right away which helps build the suspense along with the romance.
