F.J. Sparrow is not a man but a woman who owns her own bookstore. Fionna Hawkes is the writer of these gothic stories and enjoys things that go bump in the night. But lately as she goes for her nightly walks, she feels that someone is watching her. She already has enough problems with her mother slowly going mad ever since her father died. Fionna had to place her mother in a mental institution and writes her books to supplement her income. One night, she thinks someone is following her and as she is about to fend off her attacker, she bumps into Aidan.

 

Aidan is surprised yet pleased by this handful of a woman. He quickly makes sure that Fionna gets to her door safely. But Aidan comes back the next day, wanting to get to know Fionna better. Fionna likes her privacy and thinks there is no way Aidan can be a part of her life. He won’t understand why she walks late at night around town, her writing under F.J. Sparrow and of course her poor mother. Fionna is starting to believe that she may have the same madness that her mother has because she keeps seeing things and feels that someone is out to do her harm. But Aidan wants to court this lovely bookseller and will find her secrets and help her because he wants Fionna in his life even though another is watching, waiting for the right moment to take Fionna away from Aidan.

 

I have been a huge fan of Samantha James and with THE SEDUCTION OF AN UNKNOWN LADY she has delivered another wonderful romance. Aidan is a near perfect hero and Fionna is the woman of his heart. Aidan just wants to give his love and devotion to the one woman who makes his happy and Fionna fights him every step of the way. But the times Fionna allows Aidan into her own heart, that is where the story really shines. I especially liked how Fionna is an independent woman and even though Aidan’s brother is a duke, he is a self made man who works and strives for the best because of it.

 

Their romance is sweet yet sexy and their dialogue is very nicely written. Even though Fionna’s stalker is a bit obvious and the ending rushed, THE SEDUCTION OF AN UNKNOWN LADY is a wonderful romance that has a fairy tale quality to it. Kudos to Ms. James for another great historical romance.
