Raeven Russell lost her mother just days after her birth. Subsequently, she was raised by relatives, until at the age of four; they declared her incorrigible and had given up on her. Then her admiral father took her aboard ship with him. So she has spent most of her life at sea. She had been engaged; having found a man she believed understood her – one of her father’s officers. But he had been killed in a battle at sea. For six months she has been searching for Captain Cutlass, the man she blames for the death of her fiancé. Although he claims to be a privateer, to Raeven that is synonymous with pirate, so she has no respect for him. Hearing that he is at a nearby tavern, she tucks her hair under her hat and along with her friend Percy, who is the purser on her father’s ship; she goes to the tavern and challenges the captain to a duel. Being handy with a sword, Raeven believes she will defeat him.

Sebastien ‘Bastien’ Harcourt, the Marquis de Valere, who is more commonly known as Captain Cutlass, lost the rest of his family in the French Revolution…or at least he believes they are dead. He had seen their home go up in flames and had seen the report that his father lost his life to the guillotine. Although his friend, a servant who escaped with him, has tried to get him to search for his family, Bastien saw the flames and knew they were dead. He refused to hold out hope and was determined to never love anyone again.

When confronted with the young ‘lad,’ Bastien just plays him off, until he realizes how serious ‘he’ is. Winning the confrontation by pinning the ‘lad’s’ clothing to a board with his sword, Bastien sweeps the hat off of his captive’s head and is astonished to see a young woman standing in front of him. Due to the damage Raeven has done to his clothing with her sword, Bastien told her that she was going to work off the ten pounds for his clothing aboard his ship. Although Bastien doesn’t understand her anger at him in the beginning, he can empathize with her need for revenge, as he is also seeking revenge for the death of his mentor, Vargas, who was like a father to him.

Raeven had been determined to get revenge for her fiancé’s death, but after Bastien gave her a devastating kiss, her determination begins to slip and she has trouble thinking about anything but kissing him again. It disturbs her that her determination is wavering, but she cannot deny her attraction to the handsome pirate. As they share one adventure after another, during which she finds herself battling for him, as well as with him, she cannot deny her love for him. Can she win his love, or is lust all he feels for her?

A delicious high seas adventure, THE ROGUE PIRATE’S BRIDE, the third novel in gifted author Shana Galen's THE SONS OF THE REVOLUTION series, is a humorous and passionate historical romance. Even as Raeven finds herself falling for Bastien, she keeps up her pretense of wanting him dead. But he can see her real feelings through her bluff. He wants her by his side, even risking the wrath of her father and the British Navy. Both share a love of the sea and are very well matched. Her antics exasperate her father, who has a hard time keeping his daughter out of trouble. A well written story, this exciting tale is filled with a suspenseful plot, engaging characters, sizzling hot scenes, witty repartee, humor and romance. Packed with emotion, there are moments that will leave readers laughing and then there are times that will produce tears. I enjoyed it immensely and hated to see it end. This book can be read as a standalone, even though it is part of a series. But for additional enjoyment, don’t miss the first two books in this series; THE MAKING OF A DUCHESS and THE MAKING OF A GENTLEMAN.  I highly recommend THE ROGUE PIRATE’S BRIDE and look forward to Ms. Galen’s next book.
