Eloise doesn’t seem to search for mysteries, but she’s not going to turn one down. This mystery, however, comes to her from an extremely unexpected source – poetry. Ack! This poetry is so bad that at first she makes fun of it, unable to pass by it without at least commenting on its horribleness.

Soon, though, readers are taken on a trip back in time to the era of the wars between France and England. It seems that this poetry has inexplicable connections to Napoleon’s intentions, England’s safety, and Napoleon’s effect on the rest of the world, including America. None other than Augustus Whittlesby and what he has uncovered about Napoleon’s secret plot is behind the awful poetry.

Oh, thank you Ms. Willig, for giving us THE GARDEN INTRIGUE! Once again, you have managed to deftly intertwine mystery, history, romance and the contemporary world. Eloise, of course, is amazing, but it’s truly the plot of THE GARDEN INTRIGUE that shines: what creativity about technology! Augustus and all the other characters are delightful to read about and get to know. It’s a shame when the book ends, because it is just so wonderful!
