Georgiana Darcy leads a quiet, genteel life. She doesn’t rock the boat and tries her best to keep up appearances…until the day her American cousin, Miss Clarissa Darcy comes to visit. Clarissa is every bit of an American and somewhat ignorant of the ways of English society. Her brashness and confidence appeals to Georgiana, though, and after an incident at a small get-together, Darcy decides she is going to let Clarissa help her with her wardrobe for their entrance into society.

Georgiana and Clarissa’s plans are threatened when their cousin Miss Anne de Bourgh disappears. Unable to locate Anne anywhere, Georgiana and Clarissa feel guilty at having a hand in her disappearance. After all, they were the ones who started bringing Anne out of her shell, and she meets with them almost daily without being accompanied by her keeper, Mrs. Jenkinson. Anne’s disappearance brings a cloud over Georgiana and Clarissa’s debut into society, and matters are only made worse when it appears Clarissa is setting her sights on the one man Georgiana has expressed interest in. Suddenly, Anne does appear to be all that Georgiana thought she was and things suddenly turn complicated.

Monica Fairview gives us a view in the life of young girls coming of age in English society and the difficulties they face. Turning from a young girl into a young woman is hard enough without being pressured by society to act certain ways with no exceptions. Fairview continues the Darcy story seamlessly, and any fan of Pride and Prejudice will enjoy this continuing tale of the Darcy family.
