Lady Isabel Townsend does not have wealth, she does not have a proud lineage to call her own, and she certainly has no marriage prospects. It seems impossible that she will be able to provide her ten-year-old brother, James, with an education and keep Minerva House up and running. Minerva House is the name her home has been christened after Isabel started helping women in need, women running away from men who have hurt them. It is not an easy struggle but she feels lonely and afraid for what the future holds. She has decided her only course of action is to sell her Greek marbles in order to bring some funds into the family because lord knows her recently deceased father failed to provide for his two children.

Nicholas St. John has just been named “London’s Lord to Land” by the ladies’ magazine, Pearls and Pelisses. Women are everywhere in London and now they are paying distinct attention to him. When the opportunity arises to head to Yorkshire to find the missing sister of a friend, Nick takes it and runs. Yorkshire turns out to be most unexpected, however, and it is all because of Isabel. When she finds out he is an antiquarian, she enlists his help in valuing the marbles. But her unconventional ways capture his attention much more than any regular London miss. Soon he finds himself captivated and ready to truly be a London Lord to Land.
TEN WAYS TO BE ADORED WHEN LANDING A LORD follows Sarah MacLean’s terrific romance debut, NINE RULES TO BREAK WHEN ROMANCING A RAKE. Nick is the brother of the hero in her previous book but this is definitely a standalone title. All the action takes place away from London, lending the book an almost “break the rules” spirit, which is contributed to by Isabel’s harboring of females on the run. Nick and Isabel definitely break the rules of propriety in many ways but mostly by falling in love. They exchange silly banter, intelligent conversations, long looks, and lots of laughter. This is of course forbidden by London society. Isabel could not be more different from other ladies, yet, she longs for the same things: family, love, peace, and a sense of being part of something bigger. Despite her best efforts, Isabel does feel alone all too often. Nick alleviates that by taking some of her burdens. They start to share and in turn their hearts are opened up immensely.
The women living with Isabel are her biggest cheerleaders and contribute both laughter and reality to the story. They are on the run for a reason and it is not because they have faced much love in their life. Isabel’s brother also provides a great child perspective on the situation, adding humor and innocence to the story.
TEN WAYS TO BE ADORED WHEN LANDING A LORD not only has a very long title but it also has a wonderful love story within its pages. Isabel and Nick have no idea what joy is about to enter into their lives when they meet. I was so glad to be with them every step of the way. Sarah MacLean engages the heart and the mind in this stellar historical romance.
