Elena de Burgh has had only two months of peace ever since her abusive husband, Hugh de Burgh, was killed. Elena prefers to live out her remaining days unmarried and taking care of her people. But her cousin and king, John, has other plans for his rich and beautiful cousin. He sends his most trusted knight, Stephen de Verre, to come and escort her to his castle. But Elena and Stephen already know each other since Stephen was her deceased husband’s squire. She hasn’t seen him in six years and becomes quite shocked to see that the young boy she knew has become a very handsome and virile man.

Stephen has always cared for Elena and feels the guilt of leaving her with a husband who beat and degraded her. But he serves his king and must do what he says. He assumes Elena will be married again and the thought of her belonging to another evil man eats away at him, but there is nothing he can do.

For the next few days, Stephen and Elena get to know each other again and their friendship turns to love. The share a passion neither has felt with anyone else and they declare their love for one another even though they know they will be separated. Elena will be married to an obsessed individual who always wanted her and will break her to his will. Soon the two lovers are on their way to the king and Elena’s impending doom, but they may have a plan that may save her and keep them together forever.

If you like knights in shining armor and a time when chivalry is not dead, Dawn Halliday has written a wonderful medieval story with two lovers who go through so much to be together. Elena may be the poor, abused heroine but she still has a strong backbone and after years of abuse she decides to fight for what is due her. I found myself rooting for her happiness and that of Stephen, who truly is a wonderful hero.

The love scenes between these two are emotional and passionate. They live in the moment because they know they may be separated, so their coming together is the ultimate in love making. As well as these two being truly good souls, there is also a villain who is the complete opposite of Stephen and Elena who will curl your lips in disgust. But when you think all hope is lost for our young lovers, SINS OF THE KNIGHT ends with the perfect happily ever after and will have you looking for more reads from Dawn Halliday.
