Oklahoma Territory, 1891
Addie McKenna came to live with the Driggers after she’d been orphaned and traveled north along with other parentless children on an orphan train in the hopes of finding a family that would want her. She’s a strong woman who’s had to endure more than any one should have to but she’s never let it get the better of her. When Roan pays her Papa Driggers a visit she’s captivated with him, but reality is that he’s married so there’s no point in dreaming about him.
Four months later, April 1892
It’s been ten days since Roan buried his wife and daughter and he’s returned to talk to Obadiah only to be greeted by a shocking sight. Addie has just finished digging a grave and it appears that she’s now completely alone. Where have all the hired hands disappeared to? What about Obediah and his wife Sarah? They were all alive and doing well the last time he’d seen them so why is Addie toiling alone?
Even with the heartbreaking circumstances which have brought Roan and Addie again together and this time there’s a possibility of a future together, but are either of them ready to admit to the strong feelings they share? One thing is certain, life is unpredictable and neither Roan nor Addie is the sort of person to let any opportunity for happiness pass them by.
ROAN’S REDEMPTION is the first story in BK Reeve’s new THE ORPHAN TRAIN LEGACY series. Ms. Reeve’s fascination with the ‘old west’ and the men and women who displayed such strong sense of spirits in the face of uncertain futures shines through the pages of this tale. Addie and Roan seem to ‘click’ when they first meet but the timing isn’t right. Eventually they’re free of other obligations but there’s so much heartache that you have to wonder if they’ll truly be ready or even willing to open their hearts to the possibilities. I genuinely enjoyed reading ROAN’S REDEMPTION and getting to know Addie and Roan. Now I’ll be anxiously waiting for the next story in this series so I can revisit this wonderful couple.
