Jordan Winthrop has been entrusted with her family’s heritage since her brother joined Lee’s army. She’s successfully handled the family businesses but even if they fail she has the family legacy to fall back on - legendary jewels that many believe to simply be a myth. When her brother is killed, she’s at a loss as to what to do next - until Colonel Russ arrives.
Brigadier General Peter Anniston thought that he’d finally achieved the perfect opportunity to worm his way onto Grant’s staff when his troops captured the famous Gray Hawk. Imagine his disappointment when Russ’s men successfully rescued him. After recovering somewhat Russ begins exploring the mansion and discovers many secrets and some stunning paperwork. What’s most shocking is the information he learns about the Bloodstone jewelry. Since the papers about the Bloodstones are littered about the parlor it only stands to reason that Peter would be aware of them as well. Jewelry this valuable could easily change the course of the war and Russ is determined to not only get to the jewels first but protect the young woman who is in possession of them.
After evaluating the papers, Russ comes to the conclusion that the jewels could be traced back to the Winthrop’s of Tennessee. He’s determined to protect the family while at the same time making sure that the jewels do not fall into Federal hands. He soon learns that Jordan’s brother had been executed by the very man who’s got a vendetta against him. From the moment he meets Jordan he’s hopelessly in love with her but keeping her safe from Peter and his ilk may be far more difficult than he ever anticipated. And then there’s this little problem of the curse of the family jewels - will Jordan ever view them as a beautiful blessing that brought a wonderful man into her life?
REDEMPTION IN BLOOD is the fourth book in M.C. Scout’s SOUTHERN LEGACIES series. With all the history on the Civil War rarely do we hear about the heroes who fought for the Confederacy. Ms. Scout delves into their bravery and devotion to the cause while intermingling an unforgettable romance throughout the storyline. I loved how quickly Russ and Jordan knew they belonged together and the passion they share despite all the troubles that could effectively tear them apart forever. There are many fascinating characters brought to life during this story and I’ve got several favorites that I hope to read more about in the future. Of course you’re also treated to a villain that you’ll love to hate! Peter is simply evil and I couldn’t wait for him to get what was coming to him. Characters we met in the earlier books in this series are mentioned - which of course I enjoyed since it makes the men and women who served the Confederacy feel like a close-knit group.
